Lin Chi-ling is a very famous model both in Taiwan and Chinese mainland for her beauty and presence, dubbed the Top Model, but with no acting experience on the big screen. To disinter the eastern beauty of Xiaoqiao, who is the wife of voivode Zhouyu, chiling try her best to learn tea ceremony, walk as classic chinese beatuty, and listen to traditional chinese music everyday.
John Woo directed the film and wants it to give Western audiences a better understanding of China. It stars Tony Leung, Takeshi Kaneshiro, Zhang Fengyi, Chang Chen, Hu Jun, Lin Chi-ling and Vicki Zhao. With an estimated budget of US$80 million, it is the most expensive Asian-financed film to date. It does show in the lavish sets, costumes, and impressive battle mobilization. The battle scenes are visually stimulating enough, and are the best parts of the movie. It is interesting to see the magnificence of the formations and tactics described in the books all meticulously CGIed for us.
